Don't worry about it, use 2-stroke gear oil in the trans.

At the risk of starting another oil discussion  , I run 20W40 in the tranny of my GT550, and its also specified for my GS400. The factory service manual of the GT750 calls for 20W40 (page 12), but I've always run 20W50.

I ran 10w40 in my GS400C for years. I tried early on to use 20w50, but it started using oil at a very quick rate. Switched back to 10w40, hardly used any.... With an all roller crank, etc. a 'heavy' oil is not needed and actually is a hinderence. Unless you are racing a bike, I don't think a heavier oil is needed for the transmission either, since every component is designed to run in regular motor oil, not gear oil. (90w120, etc.)

I can't find 20W-40 anywhere. I am using 10W-40 in my GT550 tranny. I also use it in my GS1000 as the recommended 20W-40 is not available.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

I used Zero weight gear oil for a couple of seasons, but can't get it anymore, so now it's back to Honda two stroke transmission oil.

Using an oil with a specific weight depends a lot on many things, one of these is where you live. A 10W-40 looks way to thin when its up to operating temperatures in places where the ambient temps are always above 90F.
Therefore i still use Castrol GTX 20W-50 in the Buffalo, which is the recommended grade of oil for that transmission.
Oh i can see the faces now,,, ANOTHER oil forum.

Gear oil....GL5-rated.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........
