Early 72 gauges

Post by Suzsmokeyallan »

Has anyone ever seen these??? or has any?? I have one of these Tachs and i know Fred has one too, but i'm missing the Speedo.
On these very early 72 gauges the face is like those of the 72 temp gauge in design. On these the cream and red markings are printed on those raised portions of the face.
On the tach the three warning lamp lenses are recessed down in the face due to the thickness of the face itself.
Definately considered ultra rare for today, these pics came from ebay but the items were pulled as no longer available before the sale ended.
Maybe some savvy collector sent the seller a PM offering them mega bucks for the set, who knows...LOL
I'd bet there was a mp/h speedo made as well too but thats speculative since ive yet to see one.

Allan,

Are you sure about all of that info? You know that I know enough about 72 bikes to fill the back of a very small postage stamp.

But those pictures look very like mid seventies plastic ND gauges that mr Honda used by the millions. I realize they are Suzuki branded, but i would have guessed they came from a much later bike than 1972. Did they even have the injection molding capability back them to make it?

You know more about the old street bikes than I, but this one looks like a hoax to me.

Richard those ARE GT750 instruments for the very early 1972 model or in this situation they may have been from a 1971 JDM MK4 model of Buffalo.
Either way its no hoax, ive restored enough of these plastic bodied units to know those are the correct molding plastic cases for the 72 gauges.
Heres a close up of the same model of plastic faced tach i found quite by accident at a swap meet.
