Suzuki 2 Strokes

Went out for a spin on my GS1000 after mowing the lawn in 100+ heat index. Anyway I was rounding the corner near home taching about 3500 in first gear. Got through the corner and decided to nail it. I was on one wheel in a heart beat! 30 years ago or even 20 this wouldn't have bothered me, but at 62 going on dirt - it freaked me out!!
This is an ancient 8 valve motor that can't hold a candle to todays multi valved motors that red line at 14K. But it's sure enough for this old man.

Ditto! The GS1100, who's purchase was a mid-life crisis thing, scares the heck out of me at times... Then I remembered why I sold my 82 1100 within a year of buying it new...it scared the heck out of me... You come up on cars REAL quick at 135...

It's not speed that kills....it's the sudden stop....

The GS1000 may be a dinosaur but it still has a good 85+ bhp, which is about twice as much as you need in first gear at 25mph

Is your 1100 an E model? I really want one, im partial to the 82 model.

I love those, timeless........

While the 82s were ok in styling i still preferred the 80-81s look but im not intimidated by its power, its more the broad torque band youre feeling in stock or mildly modded form.
This version of the 80-81 however would make you think twice about where to gun it.

That red 83 GS brings back a lot of fond memories. Up until I bought my Vstrom in 02, My red 83 was the longest I had ever owned a motorcycle. Arguably, one of the best allround bikes ever built. I may be biased, but I guess I'm in good company to be so. Very nice bike in that picture. Makes me miss mine even more. Oh well, onward we go. Cheers.

Bulletproof and dead reliable... 25 years and the motors never been open other than the infamous stator replacement. I've owned this one for 7 years and never even had to adjust the valves... Not the greatest bike for the Gap though...

I think some of the 80-81 1100s also had issues with the crank end being damaged by the taper spinning out. Those roller bearing engines could take a good set of abuse though with little or no complaint for sure.
The clutch baskets however also suffered from some rattle issues, and it didnt sound good at low rpms.
Tom i didnt know you washed your bike by the pool, suppose it falls in it??? I'll be happy to report i got one of the GSX1100 frames painted, and it came out rather good looking too.
I also like my red 1200 Bandit and its all stock, but i wish it had some better dampening, especially in the back, AND some more BHP.
I'll get around to upgrading it one of these days, and even though im not a power freak compared to some i know, if im butting the throttle fairly often i think i can say its lacking a bit.
