GT550 exhaust

Post by kawonda750 »

Can I use a left exhaust from a 72 on a 74 ? The 74 L has the flange which is not removable. The 72 has the same screw on flange but it looks to be able to remove.

It seems that my left cylinder exhaust has the typical dislodged interior donuts. Wondering if the baffle will stay in place or rattle around with no support further inside the pipe.

I think the 72 mounts to the frame at a different location than the 74, I know the 380 and 750 are different from 73 to 74.
If the muffler has loose baffle plates, the baffles won't do much for quieting noise.the plates separate the chambers in the muffler.

Thanks Karl. I hope the weather is better in PA. First snow here last night.

It seems very hard to find decent exhaust . I will keep looking.... and hoping..

I brought the pipe to my friend at the local garage. We cut it open on the inside and will weld in a new plate. Waiting for the baffle to arrive so we know everything is properly aligned and then weld it back up. The welds should not be overly visible and the chrome on this pipe looks better then the ones for sale on ebay. Finding parts for this bike is way harder then Kaw triples.
