GT 550 baffles

Well. here I am cleaning up the decent stock exhaust on my 74 GT550 and I notice there are no baffles in them. Looking on ebay, I see that they must be even more rare than unicorn poop and it would cost me over $1000. for a set which I am not excited about doing. Is there something else I can use? I was looking forward to an exhaust noise far less than my Kawasaki 500 with chambers. Or, is there a more restrained chamber set that I could look at? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had a set of chambers made for my GT550A here in the UK by Mick Abbey who reckoned 20hp per cylinder was easily achievable. Ask around the skidoo folks near you, otherwise it's mainly Higgspeeds, which to my ears sound noisy & harsh.

Jemco is another option.

Cornering clearance at the side stand can be an issue with the 3-into-3 aftermarket exhausts.

Fitted sidestand only on the 3-3 with 1" taller rear Hagons , and this will be going on the Dunstall resto this winter.

I am hoping to find baffles or, the person I bought the bike from is going to look for them in his garage. Hoping to keep a quieter bike for a change and, the pipes are in very nice shape too.

Can anyone give me baffle dimensions ? I have found a few different universal baffles which may fill the bill.
Thanks Dave

I got the bigger baffles on ebay. I bought 2 crappy pipes and the seller removed the baffles and sent them separately. Now it is just a matter of finding someone to do the same with the inner ones.

Thanks Karl. I did find that out. Too bad they aren't the same as the 750. Their pipes and baffles are more available it seems.

Well, I saw an ad on facebook marketplace and the guy said he had baffles for the centre pipes as well as a very nice left muffler so I drove 90 miles to his shop. They turned out to be 380 outside pipes. They looked brand new but, of course, are of no use to me. He felt bad so he gave me an air box and snorkels in perfect shape. Turns ouit they were for a 380 too. So, back home another 90 miles with nothing to show for it.
Back to the drawing board.... it's fun to search the internet , isn't it ???

Most times for me it is a matter of luck, I made some really good deals at swap meets when guys are just trying to clean out, not so good deals when there selling as a business. If you don't need the part right now you can watch and sometimes find a good deal. If you need the part right now it ends up costing you.
I have been watching all summer for a 380B piston but can't find any with the correct part number, I found an earlier part number, not sure it fits and will have to pay top dollar.
