to remember the US Navy sailors, naval aviators and US Marines who lost their lives on this day in 1942 during the Battle of Midway.
This battle was the beginning of the end of the Japanese Empire's imperialist ambitions in the Pacific and southeast Asia. Midway has been recognized as one of the pivotal battles in the history of civilization.
It was a long climb back for the Allies in the Pacific war but the Japanese militarists never smiled after Midway.....and the days of the so-called (by the Japanese) Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere were then numbered.

Amen Brother. My hat is off and my hand over my heart.
Great men those that died. Up against tough odds they prevailed. Not just Midway but much of the Pacific theater was won through determination when the chips were down.
I always feel so humble when I think of the men of character and sacrifices that were involved.

Indeed, Rick. And tomorrow (June 6th) is the anniversary of the D-Day landings, another battle against massive odds and opposition.
As Jay said, it's truly humbling to think about those involved.

My late, great uncle was a pathfinder and parachuted in a few days before the landings to report the weather. He was a great guy and would never talk about the war. He would only tell one story of waiting alone in a burnt/bombed village hoping that the D day invasion was a success and joining back up with allied solders. Said he heard the sound of a jeep approach one day and didn't know what to expect. When he saw the star on the hood, realized it was an American jeep and that the landings had been a success it was the best sight he'd ever seen.
He was awarded the bronze start and I still have a piece of that parachute.
