Too bad these were limited production. The specs on this bike say it made 58 hp. Anyone ever get to see or ride one? Its interesting to see how many manufacturers made 2 stroke street bikes.

I've seen a couple of the "Yankee"-branded ones. It used OSSA Phantom cylinders. They were pretty fast, but the suspension wasn't much good.

There is actually a one page article (page 113) on the Ossa Yankee in this months 'Classic Motorcycle Mechanics' magazine - issue 260. Unless you are a regular reader, I wouldn't suggest buying the mag just for this as there are no photos and it is offered as a part of their 'biking lemons' series of articles

, but it is an interesting read.

Is it my imagination, or does that Yankee not sound an awful lot like a Titan with piston slap. It would definitely be nice to find one in a garage sale for 20 bucks. Looks nice because its different. At least it made it to production, unlike the Bombardier 500 that didn't. Would have been an interesting match-up. Cheers.

They actually offered it in a Scrambler version first, IIRC. I'd have to look through some of my old mags to find some pics and ads but I remember it well because I was working at an Ossa dealer at the time of all the rumours about it. Thanks for the pic, smokie. Never saw that one or ever realized that they offered a street version.

It does sound a little jangly at idle, but very sweet when it's being revved.
Those enormous fins round the barrels & head won't help with quiet running, that's fer sure

Yep, Frank, that's the one I remember. They ran a series of ads in Cycle World announcing the bike to the world.....but in the end I guess it was an answer to a question no one had asked.

It's a 500 OSSA Sport , very rare and very fast, two were running on french production races on the late seventies but many troubles about electricity.
Just these two were sold news in France.
If you want one and I want one since years go in Spain.
