Paul Miller Paintjob

Post by spike »

Hi Guys,

I won a few weeks ago a funky paintjob from PM… thought I should try and finish the T350 as fast as I can before money runs out…

I need a new seat over on that…

Purrfect oil tank

Perfect side cover

But still a few problems:

Interesting gas cap…

Funky stripes…

My original tank

Tank plugged with coating, nothing serious, sorted that out with a stanley knife, still :?

I should also have received a NOS petcock and a tool kit. There was also a NOS Tank cap featured in the photos (not mentioned in the text). Gladly the stripes are not laquered over, although they're supposed to be covered with 3 coats of clear… suits me fine now, allows me to remove them :? and spend 50$ on new one at Andre's… :? :?

Here's the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0381861922 I know 500$ is a lot of money and not only for some of you… but the the same job here would have cost me almost twice, plus I have no reference to that funky green. The petcock and badges, stuff also help making the deal sweet (180$ worth of badges + 40$ of stripe + 69$ Petcock = 289$ worth of parts).

I've emailed him, politely and am waiting on his answer… Hope the legendary US 100% Customer's Satisfaction Program will function…

That stripe isn't even in the correct position is it? ...looks too low.

I'd be torqued off, and yes $510 is alot of money. $5.10 is a lot of money when people don't do what they promise. More for you since you have to ship it back, probably at your expense, half way around the world to have it made right.

As H2Rick would say...GRRRRR!

That said, my results with the merchandise he has sent me have been satisfactory.

Some years ago I bought from PM a body set for 71" T500 (candy jackal blue). I think the price was $599.
It should come with NOS petcock but I never received it. The bottom of the fuel tank and back side of oil tank was just resprayed, old paint was not removed before. Looked ugly. Missed clearcoat on the decals. The tank should have been resealed by Elisabeth Radiator, but I saw just bare metal inside, no coating. Furthermore, fuel tank has been repaired with epoxy - typical area around fuel tap bushing. I spent another $150 to correct his BS and add missing clearcoats.

But then I thaugt PM cannot rip me off with NOS parts. So I bought NOS lower fork legs for T500. As I received the legs, I realized they have been definitely rechromed. For the sake the legs were not worn out inside so I could use them for rebuild. But after I made it public on the old Sundial board, PM just banned me on eBay.

Dealing with PM is tricky business.

Yup i hear you,,PM still owes me $120.00 for an item he took back because it was damaged. I never got anything from him except a lot of phone calls saying it would be resolved and still nothing was done.
The thing is he resold that same item again a few days later after getting it back from me.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

As the old saying goes: If you sup with the devil, you need a lonnnngggg spoon.
I will go to great lengths to avoid dealing with him.....and have been successful for at least 8 years....so far. Of course, I haven't needed any NOS Suzi parts either.....but if I did, I'd be checking with our Brit cousins first......

I paid £450 (UKP) for the paint T500R paint scheme on my bike so $500 sounds like a good deal with all those (alleged) parts included. I too was tempted by the body kits offered by PM but in the end I got it done locally, mainly because of the hassle that woud ensue if they were not up to snuff or got damaged in transit to the UK.

However the local sprayer was superb, the pin striping was sprayed on and with laquering and cut back there is not a dicernable ridge. You pay for what you get I guess and top quality does not come cheap.

On a plus for PM I used a Buy-it-Now for two Oil Pump arm cable nipples which never arrived. A note back to PM saying they had been lost in the post and did he have anymore resulted in a 2nd pair sent FOC, so I can't complain at that.

I would add Robinsons Foundry as a good place for classic Suzuki parts, always had great service from them (and they have online parts ordering so it is dead easy to see if the item you want is still available).

Cheers Zunspec

Interesting. I was tempted a while ago to buy a set of GT550 bodywork PM was offering, but I decided not to and instead had my stuff fixed up and repainted locally by a guy in our Norton club. It cost a little more but he stripped it to the bare metal and did the job right. After reading this I think I made the right decision.

I've occasionally bought parts from PM and have been satisfied though.

Just to make it clear: the paintjob is very nice. I've also bought quite a few parts off him before, including a repainted T20 sidecover which was very good. he's got his prices, though, but it's convenient to buy many items in one spot, shipping-wise.

After a bad start, it's back to a more polite and calmer tone. We will see…

After 2 emails I received what I asked: New petcock, a set of stripes and a correct tank cap. So case closed to our satisfaction. Maybe he has his bad days like all of us.

Currently there's a super spunky Mohave Red T500-II body set… If only I wasn't so skint
