G'day Neil from Noo Sarf.

Allan (suzuki smokin) is correct. Looks like a 74 top end on the 73 - but it could even be a 75 on. The easy way to check is to measure down from the top of the block to the top of the exhaust ports. L (74) and earlier were 42.5mm and MAB (75,76,77) were 40mm nominally.

73 had VM style zinc carbs and 74 on had BS40 CV type carbs. I don't remember when the barrels changed to the recess with a Water Cooled sticker in the sides.

Check out Ian Sandy's (OldJapaneseBikes ) excellent model guide to see what parts changed when.

BTW where was that fire tornado I say on video yesterday? That looked really nasty.

Apparently the 74 barrels were the same as the 73s in regards to lower torque porting specs of the 72 and 73 bikes, but they had the recess for the liquid cooled emblems.
That makes the the L model barrels a one year specific part with the recesses in the sides, as the porting was then changed in 75 right up to 77.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Will check out block measurements thanks, have photos 73 project as it stands today, happy to get feedback on how i am going about it. I know the headlight bucket & ears should be colored but the chrome looks too looks good.
parts used: front fork inner tubes- cruzinimage- fitted up with no probs, new nuts/bolts/clips-reto motorcycles, shockers/badges paul miller, switch assys-gt reiner, mirrors everett motorsport, handle bars-suzuki aust. As you can see hard to find parts in aussie land. The only problem so far is i have fitted steering head bearing and they push the triple tree apart to far, maybe sold wrong bearings or go back to ball bearings
