You know the dual sport I was working on last weekend.....I plan to replace that with this. Same bike but in a 2004 450, so here we go swapping out what I did last weekend to this new one. Should pick it up Friday night.

I will attempt to swap my fuel tank, the 250 tank is about 3/4 gallons larger.

Hope to do this Arkansas ride in May, photos on both pages.

Wayne,

I have the 450 back together after all the performance mods completed (cut he throttle stop screw to allow wide open throttle, change timing curve closer to YZ, timed accelerator pump timing), new jets through-out(sounded pretty good on the stand, yet to ride it though), gutted and added new tailpipe endcap, bunch of other stuff.

The radiators were bent so I sent them off to be straightened, came back pretty good, and will probably add a adjustable fuel screw.

Lately researching for tail racks and a inexpensive way to carry extra fuel, may have this figured out but still looking at options. Seems about every bike will have a different set of options regarding fuel. Looking at a few GPS that would work for the uses intended for duel sporting, like getting lost and staying on a track and not on private land. :P

Terry, I have been doing some general maintainence on the KTM. I put a new chain and sprockets on it, put a new shock heim joint on the rear shock, greased the swingarm bearings, and am in the process of adjusting the valves right now. Should be through tonight and ready to ride if it ever dries out. I think they are calling for rain both Sat and Sun now. I have another Archery Tournament anyway, so at least Sat is out for riding. I may go over to Bridgeport on Sunday and watch the Motorcycle Trials Competition.
I am considering buying a Trials Bike to play with.

Insured and inspected today! Getting close for tags, waiting on the title. I need to check the valves on mine.

Are your valves shimmed on the KTM, do you have a shim assortment or did you buy individual shims? What will you do with a trials bike, going rock climbing? :D

The KTM has a simple screw/lock nut valve adjuster, no shims. Took me a while to do it because I rechecked everything several times since it is the first time I have done it. I think it will be a lot easier next time. I have not tried to plate my bike and I don't have my title back yet either.

The only thing left that I plan on doing is to add a catch tank for the radiator overflow. These bikes tend to run hot if your are running at slow speeds and the catch tank will keep them from puking the coolant onto the ground. There is not much room for the tank anywhere, so I have not quite got that figured out yet.

Trials bike will hopefully help me learn to balance and turn a little better and it does not take a lot of area to play around on one of them. Plus, if you crash, you are usually not going very fast.

My RMX250 is very fast and has no valves (except reeds). So there.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........

  haha, so neither does my KX250, doesn't help me on this darn thing with 5 valves in one head! No real estate for the dome, it's all valves. How's the RM running, haven't heard anything about you riding it lately.

We are planning the trip to Ok/Ark in a couple of weeks, looking for rack and probably use fuel bottles for extra gas, camelbaks for water.

The trials bike ought to be fun! What do those weigh, 150 or so?

Where are you going to start the Okla/Ark ride? From what I hear, there are some really good DS trails around Talahina. I would like to get up there too, but I need to get the bike plated first.

Trials bikes weigh around 150 lbs give or take.

I was reading some posts on Thumpertalk about some guys using trials tires instead of knobbies on regular off road bikes and they almost all felt the traction was much better than a knobby, BUT, you have to run really low air pressure for the trials tires to work. Trials bikes have spoked rims that are made for tubless tires so they can run 4 lbs pressure and not have to worry about pinch flats.

I was looking at the Clarksville AR. ride with the Texas Adventure Group, John was looking into Mena AR, not sure about the Broken Bow/Beavers Bend area. As we talked we thought we were on the same page, well we have rooms booked in both areas so we don't know where we are going, probably end up at Mena because it's closer.

I'm looking for some pretty gnarly stuff as I will have the bike for it and so will Joe, John's thinks he be slow because of the heavy KLR he will be on. I don't want paved or fire roads I want the other. :P :P

I pulled the trigger on this rack tonight and a couple of 1.5 Litre fuel bottles for extra fuel. If they work out well I will buy another for 4.5 Litres of fuel and a small tailbag on top the rack for trail tools, patches, and the like.
