Progressing a little.....

Post by Jughead »

Since I found that one of the Crank seals Blew on the right side of the 69 Bottom end I started taking checking the Spare bottom end that DiamondJ delivered for me to His moms house a couple of Years Ago.  Yeap it's been that long since I even picked up a wrench.  Anyway it turns out to be from a 73 T500K. :D No worries About Chewing up the Tranny. I figure I would Pop this booger into the 69 frame until I can get the Crank rebuilt and add the Oil Dam Upgrade.
I was setting and Pondering on what all I had done to the Old Girl and decided that I think that my trouble with the Dead Spot at 3/4 Throttle may not be Carb related.I think it may be partly the timing.I'm using Milled Heads that I bought from Zook-e Many Many Moons Ago.Can't remember How much they are Milled (Do you Zook-e? ) I Timed the Ignition to the Repair manual Specifications.I'm firing way too many Degrees BTC.I think anyway.I'll run stock heads for a while and see if it helps.
Spent most of the night last night Pulling the Clutch Case and Buffing another cleaner one to go on.I robbed Allen heads from my GT750 Kit that I'm not going to use for a while to put the cleaned case on with.I spent this morning stripping the clear coat off of the Ignition Cover that I polished last night and buffed some more on it this morning. It was Shiney but just looked too Shittie to me.Tonight I took the 73 Model Ignition out to make room for the one that I have wired with Packard Connectors for the 69.Then all I have to do is switch the Oil Lines over.Wish I could remember what I done with my Stat o Seals. :evil:Hope to have her Better and running later this week. :?: I got to get some more riding time in if it ever stops raining.I've been having Flashbacks of the gap for the past few days.

Anybody know the Part Number for the Piston Pin and Bearings for the Old T500 Wiseco Pistons? Need them to fit the 175 and 179 P8.Original Suzuki Wrist Pins are way too big Around.

That's strange… it would mean Wiseco used a larger wrist bearing?
I never heard of Wisecos requiring specific bearing and pins… after all they have to fit the original conrod. Are you sure of your measurement?

Jughead, keep an eye on the oil dam as non of my 73 engines (have 4 of them) has higher casted dam! I think the oil level upgrade came with L-model in 1974.

Juggy,

After you measure both pins and confirm that they are really the same size, +/- tolerances, try warming the pistons slightly.

If teh pins are 1mm different, check the WISCO/HOT RODS catalog for an alternate bearing.

The little Orange Monster may Run a Little better without a Leaky head Gasket on the right side too. When I put the Helicoil in the Left hand Cylinder Hole one of the Threads popped out holding the gasket and Head Up after I torqued the Head down.SO One Blown right hand Crank seal and a Leaky Head and the Damn thing still Done 95 MPH Without Grunting. My uncle Followed me Home in my truck Yesterday. He said that He was doing 70MPH and didn't see me within the 1 Mile drive to the House.

She's torn down to the Bare Bottom end now.I'm going to spend the day Putting everything on the new bottom end. What oil that was in the Cylinders has the Consistency of Maple Syrup. :? Super Sticky too.The left hand Head and Piston was burning Clean but the Right hand definately has a Blown Seal somewhere. The combustion chamber was washed clean. What oil was Klinging to it had a red Tinge (Bel Ray) instead of CCI Blue.

Wooo Suzi the Little Orange Monster Lives.Started Friday night tearing Her Down.Worked until 2AM Saturday Morning.Woke up and went back at it.Worked on Her on and off all day Yesterday.Woke up this morning and Finished the Pipes,Tank,Seat,Injector Oil,Gear Oil and Gas.Fired right up first kick.I know know that the Tranny in the 69 bottom end was Way too sloppy. The Kick Starter Pawl caught when it wanted too and the Clutch was toast. The new Bottom end....... Well too me it feels like Brand New.I tried taking it for a short spin but the clutch just wasn't right. After Scratching my Head for a while and some Adjusting I was off for a 7 Mile Blast.Damn that thing sure does run when there aren't any leaks. It now cruises at 100MPH at around 5000RPM in 4th Gear. No Stumble when I hit a certain RPM.I think I'll go for another spin tomorrow and check the Plugs out.I think my last trouble was Just everything combined instead of the Carbs. :?

I want to give a Big thanks to DiamondJ for picking up that bottom end for me.I owe you a Big Beer. :D

Hey Jug - no problem! Plenty of folks here have helped me out the same way so it's nice to be able to return the favor. In fact I had all but forgotten I had picked up that bottom end for you. Now that I think about it - the seller had a nice restored Kawasaki A1 he was selling pretty cheaply that I couldn't convince the wife I needed. Mental note to self - don't take wife along on any future parts fetching trips!!!!! :D
