Not a 2 stroke, but fun !!

Post by h2okettle »

I just got back from a little ride.. I went to get a bumper sticker for a friend that says "real men don't need guard rails"...... This was at Pikes Peak in Colorado... Bad part is there was so much snowing going on that they would not let you go to the top.. I guess the other bad part is I rode my Triumph Bonneville to get there and not the GT... But stay tuned, I am getting the GT ready for a ride to Sturgis SD and then to Canada starting 31 July.. This ride I will be gone for 3 weeks crossing the US and Canada.. I took all secondary roads and NO interstate... the ride and weather was good for most of the trip... The only rain I ran into was up in New Mexico... It only lasted for an hour or so, and then the rest of the trip was clear.. I went to Canon City Colorado to a place called the Royal Gourge.. It was a really big bridge that went over a big hole in the ground..

I rode the Kit Carson trail... That is one road you do not want to break down on.... There is "nothing" out there but wild animals... When I started on it the day was winding down and I figured I could find a place to stop when the time came.. After it got dark and I kept seeing deer and fox/coyotes crossing the road I punched in the GPS for lodging.. Everything was back where I just came from.. So I turned around and and headed 60 miles back to Trinidad Colorado.. The next day I headed out again on the Carson trail thinking maybe the GPS had missed something... Nope !! There was nothing out there except a closed down town.. Kansas is flat, windy and smelled like a cow pasture.. Could have been just the direction of the wind that day.. So is Oklahoma.. The bike did great adn got an average of 53 mpg and a high of 61 mpg.. The trip was fun, but would be better if I had someone to ride with... I covered just over 3500 miles last week..

We all need jobs like yours Allen, then we would be out there riding with you. That sounds like a wild old time you had there for sure on the Kit Carson leg of the journey, that is one time the GPS has all its merits for checking out places you need to know about.
I'll see you in summer when you bring the GT for the Canuck leg of the trip.
Two strokes, its just that simple.
