Hi guys
Can one of your tell me, ruffly how many miles you get on a tank of gas.
Also does your GT550 run poorly till 4000rpm. I mean it runs ruff, sputters, ect...

If it's missing / spitting down below 4K revs then check the plugs are clean & gapped right, point gap, ignition timing, carb sync, air filter oiling and that the exhaust baffles are clear, if any of these are out of whack it will make a big difference down there.
If none of that works it could be a simple thing like a duff plug cap ... try all the easy stuff first!

Silly question. When the carbs were serviced, did you remove the pilot jets and make sure they were clean and also the passage it feeds. The air screw should be turned out about 1 1/2 turns from bottom. These are the two circuits that govern most of the low speed jetting until the needles cut in at about a quarter throttle. The fact that your bike runs on the choke is what makes me suspicious of plugged pilots. As has been said, check the ignition timing and all the simple stuff as well, and hopefully you find your solution. Cheers.

Helix: Your post title "74 MPG" should maybe have read "74 MPT(ank)" maybe???
To answer one of your questions:
IF/IF everything is perfect with the bike AND you are gentle with the throttle AND there's no stop/go stuff or speeds above ~55MPH
(90 km/hr) AND no headwind AND the terrain is flat AND you don't weigh more than ~170# (~77kg).......
then you should get ~90 miles before hitting reserve. Please also keep in mind that the reserve portion of fuel is miniscule and only good for ~10 miles
(15km) MAX !!!
As to your other problems, they've been adequately covered by other posters.
