A crank rebuilder will get it off.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

I had my cranks rebuilt locally, I always left the gears on. But I can't answer what others require. If you remove the crank from the cases,would it give you better access? Or maybe you already have.

I got the gears off: with a 2 arm puller. Half a turn did the job.....
