EDIT to a prior post

Post by tz375 »

I was going to edit a post I made earlier and went back to the posting/thread but I couldn't find the EDIT button.

Did something change or did I open the thread the wrong way? :?

Edit: That's odd. Looks like I can edit a thread I just posted to but not to another thread. Maybe if I need to edit something do I have to add a new post to that thread to "enable" the edit function?

Edit2:
I just posted to another thread and the EDIT button was there for that latest post but not for an earlier post in the same thread. Maybe there's a time lock of some sort.

Anyone know the answer?

Maybe the latest upgrade for the board software limits your edit time on a post? I know this is the case on the WERA board so maybe it's the same deal here?

I'd like the ability to be able to remove or edit my old posts. Even if it is just to fix my shite spelling & grammar.

There is a time limit on edits, mainly because if a spammer joins the forum and makes a legit post about motorcycles, there is no way to distinguish him as a spammer. He can come back a month later and edit the post and add a slew of spam links. The post will not bump up on the first page, because it is an edit, not a new post. So, he gets credit for the spam by his SEO manager, and our forum slowly becomes a spam magnet again.

My suggestion, just PM me with the post and content you wish to edit, or make a reply post with the new info.

cheers

Thanks,
That makes sense.
Will do if I need to make a change. This must be a recent feature upgrade.

I thought it was different. It seems like any post that has had a reply, the original post can no longer be edited. I have a sticky in the 2-sroke street section entitled general info and specs. It has been up for nearly a year, has had over 1270 views but has had no replies. I still have the option to edit the post, but if someone replies (no reason to) the edit option will vanish.
EDIT: although the option to edit the post was available just a few weeks ago - it is now gone.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.
