Do people get aggravated helping others?

Post by subspeciez »

Hello guys, I just thought I would stir the hornets nest so to speak.
I'm constantly getting a$$y responses when I'm asking questions on forums.
Mostly people will take the time to respond to my post but not answer the questions I ask.
For instance if I Asked about what kind of carbs I have they would tell me "look in the service manual" Then i would ask, "do you know where I could find a service manual?" and they would respond something like "they are easy to find" rather than telling me that they dont know, or posting a link to said information.
Maybe I'm the crazy one, I dont know. It seems to me that maybe they are tired of answering the same questions again and again.
First i would like to let you now that before i ask a question related to the forum, i spend a fair amount of time looking to see if it has already been answered previously. i know many people dont do that but,i feel it is a common courtesy.
Also, I'm always glad to help anyone with a problem, even if i have done the same thing before.
for instance, i have spent hours "colorizing" wiring diagrams just to make it easier for other people in the future that need it.
We are a mass collection of knowledge and experience, we are here to help and get help.
Any other thoughts????

I am a member on a lot of forums devoted to my hobbies. Here is what I have found about the more popular forums devoted to xyz, search is your friend.

On a forum such as this one that has very limited traffic, it apppears that people are much more apt to help others and tolerate newbie questions like mine. However on a large forum say devoted to Ford Mustangs, if you join and ask a question that is quite common like "what is the bolt pattern size?", you will get lots of exasperated posts saying "please use the search for such simple questions".

The point is that if you join a forum and have a ton of questions that seem to be common, please use the search function to search as much as you can and look at the stickys threads. That will make you more accepted at the forum as an equal rather than an annoying newbie who just pesters with common questions asked 10 times a day.
