Way Off Topic - Life Change

Post by GreenMachine »

So I'm currently sitting in a cafe in the small town I grew up in having breakfast between two work meetings. I'm very rarely up here these days, I live in the city and work in the city. The weather up in the mountains here is beautiful today, the main street is quiet, my old neighbour just rode past on his R1200GS and waved, the roads up here are twisty and fast, I know the coffee shop owner, I'm relaxed and I'm thinking - how the hell do I arrange to move back here???

My current job/skills are pretty big-town oriented (trained as a lawyer originally), so I'd need to change career to move back up here.

Has anyone on the forum done this? Taken a change of pace, moved to the country, changed jobs. It's becoming pretty common here with yuppies buying 1 acre blocks and running their consultancy from their back porch, but I don't think that's for me...

Anyways, just interested to hear if anyone here has done it.

I think what you are referring to is 'RETIREMENT'. Depending on your age, years of service to the firm, it maybe a while still. Maybe you get a 'vacation' home there and visit very often. :D

How far is the big city from your small town?

I have a good home office, work mostly from home, and go into the office usually only once a week. Maybe you could do something similar.
