Versy!

Post by johnakay »

starting tomorrow I have a new Bike to work on.
the local bike dealer will loan me a Kawasaki Versy in the morning for 3 days.
I will be making a rack, back rest and a small side luggage for throw over bags.
and the dealer will sell my racks and things for a percentage.
I'm giving them 1 freeby rack as a thank you but they said it wasn't neccessary but I insisted!
this the old model but in about a month or two time I'll be working a new Versy to(customers)
Image

also they will sell my ZRX racks to and if any of his customers want a new rack for their bikes, he will pass them onto me.
if these take off I may have to consider doing this as a business but working from home.so fingers X
If I wanted to make a life-long career out of
working with the mentally retarded I would
have opened a Harley Davidson Dealership

Fantastic Johnny!

That's how many aftermarket parts are done, they give the dealer a set and let you borrow to make custom parts. Keep going on popular bikes who are more likely to need your wares and you have a good possibility of growing.

Excellent. Keep with it, the only problem with your "retirement" job of making racks is few people know you exist. This should give you some good exposure.

spent the last 4 hours making a rack and only having to scrap it!
a right pain in the ass
any way I think I've got it figured now.
the way these things are made it doesn't give any bleeding room for adjustment.it either fit or it doesn't there's no lee way at all .
this is why I need it for 3 days!

John keep at it, practice makes perfect, and what I’ve seen of your work it will come right. I’ve done some pipe bending many years ago and remember how difficult it was

one thing for sure this is proving to be a right ball ache.
it appears the only way to go is to remove the grab rail alltogether.
sure I can make complicated brackets to make the rack fit but who will pay £100 or so when you can buy givi for more or less the same price
,renntec make a rack but grab rail removed.
and that sell for under £70.
and I don't have much time it has to go back on the12th jan.

well this is it guys.
just need finishing touches but at least I've sorted the mounts etc.
I can't make a rack suitable with out removing the grab rail .
so I incorporated one in the rack.
the guys on the versy Forum wanted one lower than the givi and mine is just a tad lower.
so this is some thing else I can work on at a later date.
anyway here it is. john

soft luggage rack.
no welds on this one.
guessimated price is around $55 this inc powder coat for a pair.
no sure if this is a fair price or not?
