Re: pah!
John the restoration thing is hot in the UK and has been for quite a few years, this is of course after a lot of it was crushed by stupid people back in as recent as the 1980s.
In comparison the US has so much stuff lying around in scrapyards and hidden away. Most people just want it gone for a pittance to clear their place and get whatever the market is willing to pay.
I remember looking at Buffalos in the UK back around 2006 from this store and anything worth buying that was restored was costing more than 3000 pounds then http://www.classicbikes.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; now prices have risen quite a bit since then.

Re: pah!
Also keep in mind the asking price on Ebay is not necessarily the price it sells for. There's plenty of US sellers asking crazy prices for tatty old bits and they keep the same auctions going forever it seems like. I guess they're counting on the whole P.T. Barnum thing and someone will eventually be desperate enough to pay the asking price.

Re: pah!
It CAN be.....if:I had an impression that ebay is the one of the best shopping sites..!!
AA) you deal only with reputable sellers
BB) you've done your due diligence as to prices/availability of the item(s) you want to buy
CC) you are familiar with the English language (and regional variations thereof) AND take the time to read ALL of the seller's writeup on the item page
DD) you are familiar with the various "tricks" that some sellers employ to rope in the unwary e.g. inflated shipping costs, bait and
switch, shill bidders, etc etc.
If you do NOT qualify under ALL of the above conditions then stay away from ebay...or any other auction-type site for that matter. You WILL get taken, guaranteed.

If you DO, however, qualify under the above conditions then you CAN find most anything you want and (usually) save a bundle buying it.
