It was a good weekend for painting

After gathering up a fair amount of parts and glass bead blasting them it was time for painting. Some metallic silver applied first and then the two part clearcoat got these results. These photos only show some of the parts as i doubt you need to see them all. I've always noticed its quite difficult to show shine on metallic silver with a flash, especially straight on views. The Bandit frame is done in a slightly darker metallic silver/pewter colour although it looks similar to the small parts, again the flash is playing tricks on your eyes.
The product used here is Glasurit '22 line' paint and two part clear coat from West Germany.

The cafe was the bike that got me into Buffalos a few years ago and sadly I got a lemon. At present its still in pieces all stored in boxes simply because its a ground up restoration AND the frames got a tweaked headtube and I need to realign it.
However, here is how it looked when it was in Oklahoma before I shipped it home and then found a bunch of issues with it and pulled it apart.
I cringe when I think of this bike and the issues it had, but they are being resolved, so when the frame is fixed all the problems will have been rectified and then I can begin restoration.

I like the front fender. I wonder what model it's from. Is it plastic or steel? Where on Oklahoma was it?

The forks and other bits look really good. I sprayed a Triumph cafe racer frame in silver many years ago with lots of clear for a good shine, but it tended to look a little gray rather than silver unless it was spotlessly clean. Mine had a red tank and set to contrast with teh silver and it looked sharp when assembled, but not so much over time.

I remember that bike. Somewhere here I have a picture of you and the PO when you picked it up. Sorry to hear it had some issues, but nothing you can't fix fairly simply.

Coyote you need to buy a front fender from a 81 GS1100 if you wish one like that. The holes on one side of the mount need re-drilling since those bikes had offset forks and the GT doesn't. Its a flexible translucent cream plastic fender material on a metal brace thats riveted on.
The bike was in OK, a bit east north east of Tinker Air Force base when I went to see it. I learned real fast after getting it home how enthusiasm and being out of the "motorcycle circle" can blind you to the real problems of a used bike.

Richard the problem you had with the 'grey look' came about because of the shade of silver you used, the newer silvers have brighter aluminum powder in them and dont suffer that issue as badly.
If anyone likes the shade of the small parts, its code is NH700M, a Honda automobile shade for their 2009 City model.
I also used a VW colour thats very close to the Bandit engine colour for redoing the rear grab handles and I have the case covers for the engine to do as well in this shade. I should soon have the used case savers I blasted ready soon so I can do all of these at one time.
